I specialize in college application essay coaching, SAT/ACT and AP test prep, analytical essay writing support, and creative writing inspiration/instruction. I love what I do and pride myself on quickly establishing an excellent rapport with each of my students, no matter what our task. Some kids see me for a month or two to work on a particular project or paper; others see me every week from 7th grade through their high school graduation for ongoing writing support; many begin working with me junior year to gear up for college, which may include AP, SAT strategies and of course help writing college essays.
College Essay CoachingStudents come to me with a list of schools to which they intend to apply, and I work with them to organize and streamline what needs to be written for each and every application. (If you need the name of a college counselor to help you establish an appropriate list, I can refer you.)
I help students think about and develop subject matter, outline and draft their personal statements, and edit and revise their final drafts. I derive great satisfaction from getting to know my students as quickly as possible and effectively coaching them to produce personal statements that reflect their smartest, best, most interesting selves. I believe that their college essays should be written by them--not by me or their parents--and together we work hard to create writing that honors each student's authentic voice and style.
I tend work with kids once or twice a week—some students prefer to meet for a two-hour block and do much of their writing and editing onsite, with me over their shoulders. I usually start this process with students during the summer before senior year, or in the fall. The earlier—for sure—the better!
